Birchbox for February

I’m a beauty junkie so I love receiving my monthly subscription from Birchbox. They offer both women’s and men’s subscriptions. The women’s sub delivers samples of well known and not so well known beauty goodies.

This months sub came with a gorgeous emerald green nail polish by Color Club called Wild Cactus. I’m always on the lookout for winter nail colors and this beauty fits the bill. I love it.

It also came with Dr. Lipps Original Nipple Balm for Lips. This stuff is awesome. I use it on my cuticles, lips and feet. Great for nursing mothers.

Skin & Co Roma Cleansing Body Gel. Kind of smells like public bathroom soap. I’m not a huge fan.

A Twistband. Since I have a tiny little pinhead, I can never find a headband that will stay put. These headbands by Twistband are fabulous, don’t crease or tug and best of all, stay put! Me likey!

And last but not least a Ghirardelli milk and caramel square. Ya ok yum.

What’s so cool about Birchbox is if you get something you absolutely love, you can buy it in full size right from their site.

Do you have any beauty subscriptions? If so, what is your favorite?

Perfect Eyebrows Part 2

Last week I talked about where your eyebrows should start. This week I want to talk about where they should end.

The ending point is almost always the same on every person.

You can take a straight edge ruler or eyebrow pencil and line it up with your nose going diagonally across your face to meet up with the outer corner of your eye, as you see here.

This is pretty simple and is easy to do!

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask 🙂

China Glaze Swing Baby

I know this came out a while ago but I always have trouble choosing nail polish during winter. I’m not a traditionalist but I dislike wearing bright pink or other bright colors during fall and winter. I typically stick with dark colors. China Glaze Swing Baby is so pretty and it’s perfect for winter. It is a lovely champagne color with a foil finish. It was super easy to apply – I only have two coats.

What do you think? Do you have any China Glaze nail polish?

Something I Love, Something I Don’t…Love

First what I love:

It’s so difficult to find the perfect red. Russian Red by Mac is the PERFECT red. This color pops on most skin types. It’s more neutral than blue and the texture is semi-matte. Goes on smooth and lasts and lasts! Make sure you pair it with a good liner (I like Covergirl’s red). I also use a lip balm because it is matte and can dry out your lips.

What I don’t love…

I actually received ModelCo Fibre Lash Extend Mascara in a Birchbox. I tried to like it. I really did. It went on a little clumpy but I have patience and worked with it. After a few hours fibers were falling off my lashes and into my eyes and onto my face! It also looked a little bit like spiders were crawling on my lashes. I know, I know, everyone loves it but I don’t. Plus, it’s a little pricey.

What’s your favorite red lipstick? Have you tried any of the fiber mascaras out there?

My Love Affair With a Leave In Conditioner

The Healthy Sexy Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner has become one of my very favorite hair products. This was love at first sight. My hair sucks up conditioner like a thirsty dog. I literally can’t comb through my hair after I shower unless there is some heavy-duty conditioning action going on. That’s why I freaking love this leave in conditioner! Just a few spritzy sprays and bam! smooth and a cinch to brush through. It’s a miracle detangler!

Healthy Sexy Hair products are based on soy protein. So what? So it means Superwoman strength and tons of moisture for shiny and healthy (and sexy!) hair. It also helps with annoying static electricity. The smell ain’t too shabby either. I think it smells like kumquats or something. The smell doesn’t last but the softness does.

Have you tried any Healthy Sexy Hair products? What about leave in conditioner? Do you have a favorite?

Four Things You Can Do Right Now to Help Your Skin

Our skin takes a lot of abuse. Dry, cold weather makes wrinkles more noticeable and our skin dehydrated and old looking. Ew. Fear not! I have four awesome and natural remedies that may not cure what ails us but sure as heck will make your skin feel brand new.

A shower filter. This one has a filter built into the handheld. It’s the one I use. Really, this is almost enough to completely change the way your skin and hair feels. Hard water sucks! It makes us dry and ashy. Literally, this is the easiest way to reduce exposure to chlorine, not to mention reducing the risk of asthma from inhaling chlorine. Your skin will be softer and younger looking. Your body hair becomes better able to retain natural oils so you need less lotion and moisturizer! Yay!

Dry brushing. You will want to spend about 5 minutes a day dry brushing your dry, naked, pre-shower body. Make sure you get a brush with a long handle and natural bristles as synthetic ones can damage your skin. Dry brushing stimulates the skin but should not hurt. It will shed dead skin cells and increase circulation which will improve the look and texture of the skin. It can help tighten the skin which will minimize the appearance of cellulite. Obviously don’t brush over rashes, infections or other skin irritations.

Humidifier. The benefits of a humidifier are numerous. It helps with dry skin, dry throats and noses. That means less sinus infections and colds. It helps to keep skin moisturized and soothes dry and itchy skin.

Tea tree oil. Where to even begin with tea tree oil? Excellent for acne – just as effective as benzoyl peroxide without nasty side effects. It doesn’t dry out the skin the way benzoyl peroxide does. It is great for dandruff. But for God’s sake, don’t eat it. Its toxic.

What do you do for your skin?
